The ocean biome is home to millions of brilliant creatures. The ocean provides vast quantities of fish, a key source of protein. If humans continue their decimation of the ocean biome, there will be no more fish in the sea. Humanity has managed to grasp onto this idea and has already implemented methods to save the worlds oceans, but much more can be done.
What is already being done?
Many techniques and initiatives has been activated in order to protect the ocean biome.
For local and state areas, the government has applied laws to protect fish from everyday fishermen. These laws include only being allowed two fishing rods, fish from different species must be a certain size in order to keep them and you can not keep some fish when caught.
To protect fish in the ocean, many things are being done. Charities such as Sea Shepherd and World Wildlife Fund raise money and awareness for ocean initiatives. The Australian government has instilled many acts and policies to protect the ocean, such as the Commonwealth Fisheries Harvest Strategy Policy and Guideline (2007) and the Commonwealth Policy on Fisheries Bycatch (2000).

What can we do?
There is plenty of action we can take to protect the worlds oceans and fish supply. To start with, we can cut down on litter, which has a devastating impact on the ocean. By placing our rubbish in the bin rather than on the ground, millions of fish will survive. Large fishing companies can also play a role in the protection of the ocean. Donating to relevant charities and raising awareness for ocean protection initiatives will also get more people aware of what is actually happening to the worlds fish. Marine life can be exploited by certain products and we can protect marine life by not purchasing or supporting these products. They can cut out bottom trawling as well as cutting down on their fish intake. Although this will be an economic downfall for these companies it will result in a more steady business into the future, as there will still be fish for these companies to gather.
The ocean is an incredible biome and is one that must be protected. Its food production is vital to millions or even billions of lives, meaning it must be protected. With everyone's input, the ocean can be a powerhouse producer of fish far into the future.
